We would like to
introduce you to one of our talented practitioners at 21st
Century Medicine. Renita Trumbo is a Massage Therapist who also performs
Microcurrent Therapy. Here, Renita addresses frequently asked questions
about the types of therapy she provides.
What is
Microcurrent Therapy?
Microcurrent is low current electrical stimulation. This therapy helps
stimulate cell activity and circulation to increase blood flow and fluid
drainage. Microcurrent, which can be used as a form of acupuncture without
needles, differs from traditional tens or E-stim in that it does not
electrically jolt the muscle but uses lower current, allowing the body to
remember the effects of the treatment for longer.
How is Microcurrent Therapy helpful?
Microcurrent Therapy can help a variety of problems, ranging from macular
degeneration to severe spinal injuries. The extremely low currents of
Microcurrent have been known to stop the process of macular degeneration.
Many of the patients I work with have back problems. Microcurrent helps
loosen muscles around an injury, sending messages to the body to promote
circulation and generate healing. If the muscles are in a constant state of
contraction, the current “talks” to the muscle and tells it to relax. If the
muscle is too loose, the current “talks” to the muscle and tells it to flex.
Patients usually notice less pain and inflammation and more mobility.
This therapy may consist of 3–15 treatments
depending on the individual’s needs. However, patients almost always notice
a positive difference immediately after the first treatment.
What about Massage Therapy? What is different about
the way you do massage?
With my massages I cater to the individual person. Each person is
unique, and each individual’s pain is unique. I do not just help relieve the
symptom; I help patients learn to deal with the source of the problem. I
help educate patients about particular movements that may have caused strain
or muscle tenderness. I also emphasize the importance of stretching.
Why should people have Massage Therapy?
Massage helps increase circulation, expel toxins, and boost the immune
system. It also helps relax both body and mind from daily stressors. It can
reduce problems associated with injuries, pain or tingling in arms and legs,
and various muscle and joint problems. Massage can help people who suffer
from chronic pain disorders, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia,
and even as a support to people going through psychological counseling or
treatment for addictions. Of course, massage is also a great way to relax
and release stress!
Do you do a particular kind of Massage Therapy?
I believe that the body doesn’t need just one type of massage. I merge
different types of massage during a session depending on the needs of the
individual patient. Types of massage I use include the following:
·
Swedish massage
·
Deep tissue massage
·
Reflexology
·
Muscle reprogramming
·
Trigger point releasing
I also
specialize in pre- and perinatal massage as well as infant massage. I have
had positive results with preconception massage patients. Post-pregnancy
massage helps women heal much more quickly after childbirth. Infant massage
can increase growth, alertness, and motor ability in newborns, even as it
helps empower mothers and families as they learn how to massage their
infants.
