Anthroposophical Medicine and Homeopathic Medicines

I would like to let you know about two pharmacies we utilize for our homeopathic and herbal prescriptions. They are Weleda pharmacy and Uriel pharmacy. These pharmacies specialize in compounding the purest medicines, which are mostly organic or biodynamic. Dr. Johnson’s training in anthroposophical medicine often dictates prescribing these special medicines.

Anthroposophical medicine is a form of diagnosis and treatment that takes into consideration the human being as a threefold, fourfold and sevenfold organism. With the threefold perspective, Dr. Johnson looks at the balance between the nerves-senses, breathing-circulation and metabolic organs and then prescribes remedies to address this balance. With a fourfold approach, he looks at how medicines affect the physical body, life body, soul body and the individual spirit part of each person. The sevenfold comes out of looking at the specific organs and glands, such as the liver, heart, kidneys and thyroid, that are part of a certain illness. All these considerations go into choosing medicinal substances that are connected to a particular imbalance. This is the basis of anthroposophical medicine, which is very well known in Europe.

Dr. Johnson is part of a group of doctors training other physicians to learn this medicine in the United States. Anthroposophic treatment tries to get at the root causes of illness and help the individual person to evolve through mind, body and spirit. Many of these treatments are also particularly good for children suffering from common childhood illnesses.

Uriel and Weleda pharmacies compound these remedies for particular imbalances to the specification of the physician. Weleda pharmacy also makes many natural body care products, which can be ordered online at www.usa.weleda.com. These products are botanical and of the highest formulation and are excellent for adults as well as children.

Dr. Johnson is happy to answer any questions about this approach to medicine and the remedies we use. If you would like Dr. Johnson to do a specific consultation from this unique perspective, call our office for an appointment.

SpectraCell Testing

We would like to update everyone on two new tests we now have available in our office. One test is very useful for cholesterol and fat analysis, while the other provides a comprehensive nutritional profile. These tests are very helpful as part of a preventive health profile and can also help assess nutritional deficits, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular care. Using these test results, your doctor can better prescribe vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids and diet programs.

The SpectraCell lipid profile evaluates cholesterol and fats in terms of particle sizes and also several biological markers that more specifically pinpoint your tendency for cardiovascular risk. The test is covered by Medicare and is $25 with most insurance carriers. Unfortunately, Humana does not cover this test.

The SpectraCell intra-cellular nutritional analysis reviews your utilization of key vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and amino acids as well as fructose sensitivity and glucose insulin metabolism. Important B vitamins, Co-Q10, glutathione, lipoic acid and zinc are included in this comprehensive evaluation. The price for this test is $48 for patients with Medicare and $75 for most non-HMO insurance companies. Again, we are sorry that Humana will not cover these tests.

All of these tests can be broken down into smaller components if needed, making the tests more cost effective for HMO and Humana participants. 21st Century Medicine continues to offer specialized testing for prevention and treatment of many medical conditions, including heavy metals challenge testing, liver detox profiles, food allergy testing, digestive stool analysis, saliva and blood spot hormone testing, candida testing and parasitology.
