Insulin Resistance and Weight Control

Many people can’t lose weight because of Insulin Resistance. Insulin Resistance is increasingly common. Blood sugar or glucose can only be utilized by the body when inside your cells. Insulin, which is secreted by your pancreas, is what allows glucose to be transported from your blood stream to fuel your cells. Your body will keep secreting Insulin to keep your blood sugar in balance no matter how much it takes. If you can’t secrete enough insulin, high blood sugar or Diabetes Type II eventually occurs.

If your cells are resistant to the “insulin signal”, you have Insulin Resistance. Unfortunately, this state enhances fat storage, signaling the body to store fat making it very difficult to lose weight. A high insulin state can eventually become associated with high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and Diabetes.

Most people with Insulin Resistance have obesity focused around the midline. For many people, Insulin Resistance is associated with a condition called Metabolic Syndrome. The symptoms are elevated waist to hip measurement ratio, high LDL (bad cholesterol), low HDL (good cholesterol), high triglycerides (fasts in blood), high blood pressure and sometimes hypoglycemia early on.

Learning how to eat low glyceric foods in balance with protein is important to controlling Insulin Resistance and losing weight. Exercise is a key to help the body utilize insulin and lose weight. Exercise that increases muscle mass is also key. Adding certain nutrients like kinase inhibitors, conjugated linoleic acids, chromium and anti-oxidants also can facilitate progress. Hormone balance is also important. Be careful of diet shakes that burn muscle and not fat. Some diet shakes like Metagenics Ultrameal 360X promote fat loss more efficiently. Putting this all together is the key to controlling this disease.

Insulin Resistance is at an all time high. Dr. Johnson recently updated materials and protocols to help treat this difficult weight and medical problem. Making these lifestyle changes can be the foundation to long term health. If you or a loved one has Insulin Resistance, we may be able to assist you.
