OUR PRACTICE

Our Vision
To be recognized as the leader of Integrative Medicine—providing caring solutions while teaching people to live better, longer.

Our Mission
To provide each of our patients with innovative pathways for becoming his or her own “healthy self” through quality, wide-ranging, cost-effective care and education all with a personal touch.

Our Medical Philosophy
At 21st Century Medicine our Integrative Medicine combines the best of Allopathic or Traditional Medicine with the best of other effective medical disciplines, strongly emphasizing long-term Preventive Medicine. We seek to address your immediate health concerns while at the same time analyzing them in view of your overall long-term wellness. Emphasizing Preventive Medicine at least as much as Crisis Medicine, we attempt to solve medical problems using methods as close as possible to the way God intended. We use orthomolecular principles to facilitate the immune system—the “physician within”—in the healing process. Where appropriate we use nutritional therapies before drug therapies. We want our patients to become so well informed about their problems that they become their own “doctor” and we become their “coach.”

Goals of the 21st Century Medicine Wellness Plan

·  Prevent disease

·  Reverse disease

·  Slow aging and increase longevity

·  Optimize mind and body health

Plant Metaphor
We use a plant metaphor to explain the approach we take to your health needs. The “leaves” of the plant are the symptoms you have that concern you. They are the part of your overall health that you are able to “see.” Understandably, you want these problems taken care of. Treating the “leaves” is the primary focus of Allopathic or Traditional Medicine in which each disease is believed to have one cause, and there is one drug or treatment that can treat it. Examples of “leaves” are diseases such as cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome, signs such as excessive fat, and symptoms such as nervousness, depression, brain fog, fatigue, fibromyalgia, insomnia, and hypersomnia.

The “roots” of the plant are the underlying causes of the symptoms that show up in the “leaves.” Unhealthy roots result in unhealthy leaves. Examples of “roots” are a compromised immune system, hybernation fat syndrome, high calorie malnutrition, the yeast syndrome, and the accumulation of toxins from inorganically grown foods.

The “soil” of the plant is the source from which its health or disease can develop. This includes the total body and mind environment.

At 21st Century Medicine we attempt to solve your health problems that show up in the “leaves” by solving the problems with the “roots” and “soil.” These are the long-term health solutions rather than short-term fixes that can cause other problems.

Barrel Theory
Using the metaphor of the barrel, we might say that your body can only “contain” so much “trash”—i.e., negative health risk factors—before it overflows to the point where disease develops. Genetically, we all inherit certain health vulnerabilities. So from the very start, the barrel is filled part way. A lifetime of exposure to environmental toxins and stress increases the level still further. Finally, lifestyle choices such as smoking, abusing drugs, overeating, under-exercising, or eating too much sugar can fill the barrel to the brim and beyond. People who suddenly experience medical symptoms may not realize that their barrel was almost full prior to the onset of their disease. They did not realize that one more stressful event, toxic exposure, or pack of cigarettes would be enough to bring on symptoms. The barrel metaphor highlights the importance of preventive and long-term approaches—including detoxification and lifestyle modification—in reducing the risk of disease. Our goal is to keep the level of your “barrel” as low as possible, so that when you are exposed to life stresses, germs, and toxins, your barrel can “contain” them without overflowing to the point where disease develops. Following our wellness approach to your health can lower the probability of strokes, heart attacks, and diabetes.

21st Century Medicine Wellness Recommendations
Our recommendations are aimed at improving the soil and getting to the root of the problem, or, if you prefer, keeping the level in your trash barrel as low as possible. They are related to the following:

·  Health awareness

·  Diet

·  Diet supplementation

·  Exercise and routine

·  Attitude and relationships

·  Avoidance of toxins

·  Cleansing of toxins

Our goal is to help you determine the cost effectiveness of our wellness recommendations for your particular long-term wellness problem. We will be glad to discuss our recommendations with you and work with you in any way possible in order to facilitate your ease in implementing them.

Compliance:  Following Through on Wellness Recommendations
Through our Wellness Plan we offer assistance in the following:

·  Clarifying and prioritizing our recommendations

·  Addressing issues of practicality and cost effectiveness

·  Helping you address emotional and stress-related problems that affect
your health and interfere with making lifestyle changes

As Montaigne, the French philosopher, said six centuries ago, “Man doesn’t die; he kills himself.” We want to teach you to live better, longer. We believe it is possible to live to be 130 years old with a good quality of life. Let us help you identify the causes of your health problems, use the most effective medical, nutritional, and orthomolecular solutions, and “coach you” in making the necessary lifestyle changes to allow you to achieve optimal health.
